What does MySpace have to do with us?

Here is an interesting article (by a VP at SIRSI, no less) about what libraries may have to learn from environments/applications such as MySpace, Facebook, YouTube, etc. -- more questions than answers here, but there are some interesting implications for instruction. I especially liked the reminder that "Learning is essentially a social activity."

Comment and let me know what you think!

  • Interesting questions. We're in the midst of revisioning the ICUGLS Web page and these questions are very relevant.

Questions 5 & 6 struck me as ones that point to a role that the library can play; esp. #6, "create communities in our educational spaces that are safe, confidential, private, and still have permeable boundaries." This is OnCourse, but not. Not a class, but a drop in workshop.
